Police arrest two 19 year olds who smashed up NW Portland businesses during riots

More than a few of us love you for volunteering your thoughts at times like this, ThisDerp. Sincerely.

After I posted this thing and checked in a couple times and saw you kind of correcting the record on sentencing and stuff, I was like...damn, for as long as this person's been schooling this sub pro bono on the legal stuff, this person shouldn't be the only one around the sub who's able to provide this caliber of information. I feel a bit guilty leaning on you like this...but as you know, your taking the time to familiarize people with how our justice system works is probably in the best interest of every single person reading what you're typing.

Your example should have inspired more of us to learn a bit more about our local legal system, and may at this moment (who knows?) be inspiring more legal professionals to learn to communicate better in plain english how our laws work, that's all I'm saying. (TLDR?)

Despite some of us drawing inspiration from your familiarity with the theory and practice of law, and its application and interpretation locally, I think most of us participating here don't quite have the level of commitment (or the attention span) it would take to go deeper. Hence my gratitude for certain clarifications you offer.

The people residing in this nation, at this moment, have an opportunity right now, with this new gangsta-in-chief, to learn a TON about due process, and about the rights that protect us all. And if the potus doesn't want to be a "so-called" president, in my opinion, he had better start expressing some respect for the professionals who understand and and practice law, because there is no "so-called law." There's only the law that all of us are equal under.

The more we all know about our rights and about due process and about reasonable expectations we can have regarding our justice system, the better off we will all be.
