Half the problem is though, how can you expect the police to give up their guns and still show up for work? They won't. Taking guns away from the people won't work either because IF police even show up (and have the ability to decipher who the bad guy is on arrival) then you gotta hope they take appropriate action. As far as I can tell the major factors linking all these incidents of police being flat out stupid or trigger happy seems to go back to training and psych evaluation. Fix those two things and I'm sure a large portion of the issues would stop. Theres also the issue of distrust of the police. Which I have no idea how you'd solve that because it's quite justified.
