Police officers in Colorado shot and killed a terrified young man whose car got stuck in a dirt road. Christian Glass, 22, called 911 for help and showed signs of a mental health crisis before a Clear Creek deputy escalated the situation and fatally shot him after an hour of engaging with them

When I was in college there was this kid with some kind of special needs (I'm not sure if it was autism or what) whose parents were wealthy and they wanted him to have a college experience so he lived in the dorm. Sometimes he acted like a dog. He wanted to be called "Bad Dog" and would woof at people. He wasn't threatening or anything. It was weird but friendly behavior.

One night there was a block party off campus and he showed up. Later on, so did the cops -- as always -- to break it up. Predictably he woofed and him and they beat the living shit out of the guy. Four or five of them. The rest of us were powerless to help because we would have been killed or beaten up plus charged with a bunch of felonies. There was nothing anybody could do.

That was 1996. I'm not sure anything's gotten any better.
