I think the police argue the swat response was needed as the belt thief had invaded this home while armed and forced a young child out, if I remember what I read earlier. However, if he let the “hostage” go and is holed up,, why not wait him out, cut power, blast stereo all night etc, or negotiate? Not sure why they would storm in and apparently trash a good portion of the house? I don’t know all the facts of course. Flash bang in the room and then get him? But yes, for an innocent third party to have his house trashed and then be expected to pay it all, or have his insurance pay while he covers deductible and increased rates, is hard to fathom. Sounds outrageous.
