Police Stood By As Mayhem Mounted in Charlottesville www.propublica.org

OK. So, a bunch of people are going to get together for a rally, say some hateful shit about some pet scapegoats, feel cozy together in their echo chamber. I think they have legitimate opinions and grievances. I think their approach and overall simplification of the issues is misguided. How best to disentangle this mess?

Low on the list must be to march a counter protest at them. Showing up at their shindig to say fuck you seems antagonistic. It serves to only reenforce their point of view that they are marginalized and that America no longer protects their rights.

Have a counter protest across town. That seems better. Draw in multitudes more people and show the world the strength of your point of view. Everyone gets to feel all cozy in their echo chamber.

Someday, people are going to need to talk this shit out. Else, things will just get worse and worse until we have the kind of generational hatred we see in other parts of the world. Hate is a crap way to express ones problems, but it is a starting point. When are we gonna get down to brass tacks.
