Screaming out ‘you asked for this’ is a shit argument because people asked for them to stop killing innocent people, beating and harassing protesters, and targeting poc. The people asked for them to be defunded and the money be re-allocated to better resources. Instead what we got were a bunch of cops who decided to just stop making traffic stops bc that was an easier solution than designating self control during altercations with people. Imagine not being able to perform your job because you’re not allowed to bully people or a lack of self control? In any other profession you would be fired. No money has been taken from the police and redistributed into programs used to benefit the citizens. Did you know 40% of Columbus city school seniors are on track to NOT graduate? Why do you think that is? So all we got was a hands off approach to solving any legitimate crimes (they still harass homeless people though, see that daily! Priorities, right?) and none of the money redistributed back into the community. We’re literally paying them to do nothing but drive around and take helicopter rides. So no, this is not ‘what we wanted.’ We got nothing out of this, no one has. And if you think you’ve benefited, you’ve never been the target anyway.
