Polish problems in r/games. One day old and already getting Wild!

Jade Empire is a great example, not surprising that BioWare was behind it considering their track record. There need to be more games like that. Hell, I certainly wouldn't mind if BioWare made another game in that universe.

Aren't Slavs an oppressed minority in Western Europe? Isn't it enough that there's a game full of Slavs, or are other minorities needed in the same game?

That's actually one of the better points I've seen brought up, but I'm still not sure it works for me. The problem for me is that The Witcher is a fantasy version of Poland and Slavic folklore. It's not trying to be a historically accurate retelling of Slavic history in Europe. Maybe if The Witcher had clear stand-ins for Jews and Roma or was trying to be a fantasy version/reworking of the Holocaust then I'd buy that argument more. I think my overall issue is that we get tons of stories about white people in AAA games all the time. The Slavic setting is certainly more unique, but it's still just not different enough. I'm white but even I'm getting tired of how overwhelmingly white AAA games are. I'd love another Jade Empire or a game based on Arabic or Indian mythology. The other day I saw somebody suggest a Fallout-type game set in Tehran which I think would be amazing.

Obviously none of this is to say that white people can't make good/interesting games. Obviously they can, but art never suffers from more diversity and that's something that's needed in games right now. Francophone sub-Saharan African and Iran both have thriving art cinemas and it hardly needs to be said that Bollywood is a pretty major film industry. It'd be nice to see something like that in video games but it's tough when people push back so hard against anything that doesn't fit the status quo.
