Political Jeopardy

Socialism is an often misused word. Liberals and conservatives both use it incorrectly in most cases.

Socialism is usually defined as public ownership of the means of production (the workers collectively own the factory). Another lesser used definition is a society that does not have private property.

Services payed for with tax money such as public schools, police and fire departments, roads and healthcare (in most first world countries) are not socialism. The proper term for those things is "public services".

Please stop allowing corporate owned politicians to redefine public services as socialism as an excuse to get rid of them. Public services disproportionately benefit the lower and middle classes while providing little benefit to the rich. That's why the rich want to get rid of them.
