[Politics Monday] Don’t Slander Junipero Serra

These aren’t “indigenous voices,” it’s a political opinion that happens to be objectively false historically. Some indigenous peoples may feel that way, but not uniformly. The indigenous Catholic community for example likely doesn’t support it, and I base that off of the opinion of a friend of mine who happens to be in that demographic. Besides, it’s usually white liberals who are the loudest champions of this stuff.

Further, embracing falsehoods for the sake of appearing “nice” won’t help our souls, our Church, or our mission to evangelize, nor will it placate those who already hate us. We will not win their love, only lose more of their respect.
