[Polygon] EA’s Star Wars ‘pivot’ is a vote of no confidence in single-player games

I'm probably going to show my age here but holy shit every time I read a post from someone talking about the price of old games on this sub I never know what the fuck they're talking about.

The vast majority of Super Nintendo games did not cost $70, so no, you didn't "used to have to pay $70 for a Super Nintendo game." NES games ranged from around $30 to $45, SNES games were mostly $50 and N64 games were mostly $50.

That chart specifically is from EGM Print Issue 243 but you can certainly find similar on Google. Although the original Xbox is not listed on that graph, the price of those games were similar to PS2 games.

Were there SNES games that cost $80 - $100+? Yep. Were there N64 games that cost $80 - $100+? Yep. Did a vast majority of games on consoles prior to the launch of the Xbox 360 cost under $60? Yep.

The $60 starting price point for most/all games on a console started with the release of the Xbox 360 in 2005. That will be 12 years ago next month.

I'm not disagreeing with your main point. I think it is pretty crazy that the price of games has not increased more in all those years. Then again, there are a ton of additional factors that play a part and I could probably write for hours on those but I won't bore you. All I'm saying is let's not pretend NES, SNES, N64, etc games were $60+ because they really weren't. Statistically speaking, I believe the N64 had the largest percentage of total games with a $60 price point or more than any other console prior to the release of the Xbox 360, but that's just a guess and I don't have a source to back that up.
