Portland Public Schools bans material that casts doubt on climate change

This is merely the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more crap in this shoot. There is an absolutely ridiculous amount of students in one particularly wealthy PPS school I am very familiar with who absolutely believe global warming is a myth.

I was speaking with one of the chemistry teachers recently, who expressed how frustrating it is to teach an objective science class when it is illegal and she/he could get fired if she/he tells her/his kids what their parents have indoctrinated them with is 'absolute bullshit'. (There's also a large anti-vax group)

I would assume the getting fired issue is resolved by this new legislature, however, the parents are so deep into the pockets of the school, and make up such a majority of the funding through donations, that if their kids come home with the slightest complaint the school will begin hemorrhaging and falling apart at the seams.

The school is an absolute joke.

Wealthy parents should not have the power to bully their children's teachers into giving their kids an A. It's not 'simple bribing' or something so corrupt. It's the fact that teachers already are extremely overwhelmed with a plethora of work and expectations to uphold, that they just cannot deal with all the shit the parents throw at them. Parents just have to throw enough aggression and bitchiness at the teachers to make them cave and give their kid preferential treatment, alternative assignments, unwarranted retakes (that aren't avaliable to other students), and convenient 'no marks' on assignments that should be zeros in the grade book.

Shit goes down in PPS, and anything that can help the teachers be less afraid of their students and their students parents is a good thing in my opinion.
