Positive experience with mental health services

Citalopram was the kind of default SSRI they reached for for me. It's apparently a bit better than prozac but it mostly just made me want to go to sleep. Or maybe I wanted to anyway and it wasn't helping. But for me venlafaxine was a lot better, which is an SNRI - I think the N part (noradrenaline re-uptake inhibition) helps promote wakefulness/alertness, so probably wouldn't recommend if you're already struggling to sleep. Withdrawal effects were a bit of a ride.

That said I'm off it now and have been for a couple of years, and while my baseline mood and anxiety level is noticeably worse than when I was on those drugs, I'm not feeling bad enough to want to start again and haven't for any extended periods of time. Technically this is good but feels like a weird position to be in.

But for anyone else: speak to your GP, etc.
