Possibly quitting breastfeeding due to intolerances

I breastfed my first until he was 27 months old, and he had an egg allergy, it caused really bad eczema but it took us forever to figure it out. It started when he was 6 months old and we didn’t know it was egg until after he was 1, so it was really difficult. I had tried eliminating various foods that I thought were causing his eczema but it didn’t seem to help (I never considered egg? Even though it’s one of the big allergens.) after he turned 1 we did a blood test to see if he had any sensitivities and egg came up along with other things. So I cut out egg immediately and saw results really soon. He was okay with dairy and wheat. It wasn’t until we saw our 2nd allergist that we were able to confirm egg was a big trigger and it was nice to confirm that. Things improved a lot and I had to completely eliminate egg from my diet if breastfeeding was something I still wanted to do. Which it was. It was hard because egg is in SO MUCH. By it then I was able to stop being so restrictive with my diet which was causing me a lot of depression and issues because I was scared whatever I was eating was causing my son so many problems.

It’s really hard to eliminate things from your diet but it’s possible if you want it to be. Especially if you can find the exact trigger. We saw 2 allergists, had multiple doctor appointments, I was very restrictive with my diet for a while. It was hell but for me it was worth it.

What sort of symptoms is your baby experiencing? If your baby has a dairy allergy then there is plenty of other ways for you to get what you need. If it’s just egg, that’s almost easier. Wheat? Hard but definitely doable. Especially if you can add other things back into your diet. My pediatrician has also mentioned sometimes it can take a while for foods to completely leave your system so even if you have eliminated something, it might not show the next day but may take a bit. It depends.
