[Possibly retarted question] Is it ok if I pan my sub?

The intelligent are compassionate. Why? Because they understand the interdependence between all things. To degrade a fellow human is to degrade oneself. I hope that you will hear the compassion in this text and not understand it as a retaliatory ranting attack.

I don't suggest we bite our tongue on this word because I take personal offense (I understand that we give power to any and all words), but because it most certainly can offend others.

If you want to go around spouting words like this, more power to ya. However, you will likely find that your songwriting ability improves more quickly as you learn to love all that is around you unconditionally.

This is my personal reaction to reading this post title. First I was taken aback that someone was still using the word retard in such a manner. I go to a very PC university, and no one, no one, uses retard in such a manner anymore. To do so is to be called out like this and reminded what it means to do so. I immediately discredited the poster as an idiot. (Fair? No. But that was my honest reaction.) Normally I would approach the posed question (pan my sub?) with patience but this time I'm like, fuck this guy, he can't even spell retard correctly.... Before even getting to the end of the title, the user has alienated me and undermined his ability to get my help. Is my help the only help available? Obviously not. But perhaps you see my point?

By omitting one word, the user could ask the same question without alienating himself from a given portion of the population. Does retard enhance the sentence? No. It detracts from it.

I'm sorry to be preachy but this is honestly for the reader's benefit. I don't like typing all of this up (it's been rather troubling because I worry about the way in which this will be perceived) but I feel as if it's important to do so. We all want the same thing. No one wants to represent any word that is used in such a way.

This is a single and isolated example, but the ideas surrounding compassion span across all situations.

I hope whoever reads this text will do so objectively and think about the ways in which they choose to employ language.

Oh thanks...
