Post Game Thread: Caps fall 2-1 in OT (FUCK)

Hi everyone! How about some real talk!

  • That wasn't a goal. We would all have been screaming if it was the other way around and it had counted with Holtby unable to make a save.

  • We were straight up dominated in just about every facet of the game (including hits, from what I can tell, which is saying something with this Caps team), and for the first time since game 2, Holtby couldn't bail us out.

  • We have come out flatter than 4 day old beer for 5 games in a row now, ever since we throttled the Islanders in game 7 last round, and that's just unacceptable. We've managed to either concede a goal, take a penalty, or both within the first 5 minutes of each game.

  • We have been rightfully cocky about Holtby, because he's descended from immortals and will probably cure cancer once he gets around to it, but really the big reason it was 3-1 coming into tonight was because we blocked so many shots. They got two through today and scored two goals. That tells you something about how we need to play in response (stop relying on flukey one goal wins).

  • Yet again, we decided to sit back for an extended period of time up a goal and try to ride it out. For the first time in three games it didn't work, but it's really not a sustainable strategy anyways. It's ridiculous to expect us to just sit and play for 9 minutes and change in our own end up 1-0 and eke out the series. That being said, thanks to Holtby we still almost managed to do it. What pisses me off most is that in the 1:40something left after Kreider's goal, we managed our best offensive push of the game, like it was just sitting there and we finally decided "oh let's do that".

  • Game 6 now becomes an absolute must win. If you have any interest in going back to MSG for a 7th game, with the Rangers having won two in a row, power to you, but I don't have another healthy heart lined up for a transplant.

  • See you sunday!
