Post Game Thread: Seattle Kraken at Colorado Avalanche - 10 Jan 2022

But since there were like 10 seconds left, we had absolutely no reason to pull a deliberate offsides.

I'm a little shocked at people thinking this. Once the puck cleared the zone with ~10 seconds left, the Kraken absolutely needed to stop the clock.

They did not have time to exit the zone and re-enter (to get 'on sides') and needed something to reset, so the player in the offensive zone - knowing they were off sides - grabbed the puck to stop the clock. The referee made the correct call and it's a call that gets made regularly. It is, in fact, one of the very reasons the rule exists.

I love the Kraken and it's a sneaky play you can sometimes get away with, but this was pretty much textbook intentional off sides.
