Post one food swap/substitution that you LOVE, and one that totally grosses you out.

Substitues I love:

  • PB2. I still eat regular peanut butter, but PB2 was a game changer for adding to stirfry sauce, yogurt, and oatmeal.
  • Quest bars, or Clif bars. Good way to replace the daily granola bar I used to eat that had 0 nutritional benefit. I usually eat 1/2 a protein bar for ~130 cal or so.
  • Splenda. A few years back I started using 1/2 Splenda instead of a packet of sugar in my coffee, and I can't tell the difference.
  • Unsweetened greek yogurt. Saves so many calories, usually a cheaper price, and then you can dress it up however you want: make a savoury dip for your veggies, or add honey, vanilla, Splenda, pb2, jam, whatever for a yogurt!
  • Bolthouse farms yogurt dressings, especially the honey mustard one. They're SO good, and only 25 cal for a TB (more than enough).
  • Shredded parmesan (fresh). It's lower calorie than most cheese, has a strong cheese flavour, and it's just fantastic.
  • Ikea veggie meatballs. They're delicious in marinara with pasta, or with rice (with stirfry sauce or with BBQ sauce), and chickpeas are filling.
  • Zucchini fries. Damndelicious has two great recipes - one rolled in breadcrumbs, and a lower cal one rolled in parmesan. They don't taste like fries, but they're incredible. Esp with a spicy tomato dip.
  • Banana nice cream. You can find ice creams that are lower calorie, but omg I love it so much, and find it quite filling. Just plain frozen bananas with a little shaved chocolate on top is incredible. I don't have a blender anymore, but I dream of this stuff sometimes. :(

Substitutes that make me cringe: - Cauliflower rice, or cauliflower pizza. The planty-smell of cooked cauliflower ruins it for me. - Zoodles. They're good for 'salad-like' meals, but if I want a pasta dish, they're not remotely satisfying. - The 0% fat Philadelphia cream cheese (not the 'light' one in the white container, but the blue cap.). Tastes weird and grainy. - Laughing cow. I'd rather just have cream cheese or real cheese. - Apple sauce. I just don't like it, and I can tell when it's in baked goods. - Fibre1 bars. Ughghghgh they're so chemically and gross.
