Post WWE Money in the Bank Discussion Thread - June 18th 2017

I should probably preface my comment by saying this is the first WWE show that I've stayed up for in probably a year, other than WrestleMania. My work schedule has changed and so I was able to actually watch a show again, since I don't pay for the Network, so excuse me if I say something dumb.

This show is a great example to me in why I don't really care about wrestling very much, these days. This show just felt so low-energy that I didn't get excited, even though I knew the main event was a good MitB match. I can't tell anymore if WWE overthinks their shows or just throws darts at a dartboard, but it all feels so "by-the-numbers" that I don't really feel like there's a point in watching. They have so many wrestlers that are good and exciting, but then they have them all go out, say and do the same things, and I feel like other than small details, you're just watching clones fight. I just wish that the wrestlers had more distinct flavors or they could go out and express more energy, something to make this place in time feel special and memorable.

For example, I'm actually interested in Jinder Mahal being WWE Champion because it's so different, but then he just goes out and says, "I'M THE MAHARAJA" and does nothing else. What is it supposed to mean that he's the "Maharaja." I'm not looking for a translation, I mean just saying something doesn't make it a characteristic, you have to act in a way that gives it meaning. I remember thinking the same thing when they called Seth Rollins "The Architect." Sure, he designed The Shield, or whatever...but then they never did anything with it that elaborated on why he should have it. Also, he destroyed the Shield, so he has a nickname for building when his most famous act is destroying. Nicknames are something you give to somebody based on their actions, and having him just go out and say it for the sole purpose of putting it on a t-shirt is ridiculous, and that's the only difference in any of these guys is the font that is used on their t-shirts. When you have a guy like Sami Zayn, who had the most unique indy character in El Generico, fail to really stand-out, I can't help but feel that you're doing something wrong. It's like if you went to a Batman stunt show at an amusement park but then Batman never showed up, so instead you're just watching the goons fight. No matter how good their fight is, I just want Batman to show up. WWE doesn't have that, right now.

Maybe I'm just being cynical and I'm sorry for the long rant, but as someone who has actually watched wrestling since they were born, it's hard not to feel disappointed. I'm not saying other people can't like this or shouldn't, I'm just saying this is why I don't.
