Regarding humans!

I decided to do some simple math

  • Humans get 110 exp (10 more than most, 20 more than some)
  • They get 2 in every stat instead off two stats being split 1/3
  • They recieve 2 skill points to do with what they please, others usually have 1 skill point in a set skill and one special thing
  • Humans have average health/strain

Scenario 1: A well rounded character with a high stat.

  • If you want a char with a high characteristic you could choose a human and boost it or a race with a boost in that stat.
  • Humans spend 30 exp (80 left) to get 3 in one stat and 2 in all others.
  • Other races spend 20 exp (80 left) to get 3 in one and 2 in the rest.

So they end up with the same exp left. From her on out they can invest in any way they want since it will cost the same.

So the decision really comes to whether the difference in health/strain, the one skill point and the special ability of a race is better that a humans 2 skill points.

  • (2 unbound skill points) > (1 bound skill point + special ability ± health/strain)

Scenario 2: A min max character.

  • Humans need to invest 70 exp (40 left) to get a 4/2x5 character.
  • A race with that stat boosted invests 40 exp (60 left) for a 4/2x4/1 character.

For humans to be good:

  • (Dump stat higher + 2 skill points where ever) > (1 set skill point + special ability ± health/strain + 20 exp)

If the race skill point is in the correct skill and he invests to buy the other free point humans get:

  • (Dump stat higher) > (special ability ± health/strain + 10 exp(15 if career skill))

If the race skill point is NOT in the correct skill and he invests to buy the other free point humans get:

  • (Dump stat higher) > (special ability ± health/strain + 1 skill rank in a suboptimal skill + 0/5/10 exp depending on whether they are career skills or not))

Conclusion

Scenario 1:

  • You need the other race to provide good stuff in its bonuses, otherwise the 2 skill points are just too good. If you are wasting 2 skill points for a suboptimal skill point and the ability to breath underwater..well then that is no good.

Scenario 2

  • Unless your health/strain of the other class plain sucks you're better off with the other race than the human. Especially if the skills you want are career skills.

Final thoughts

  • For classes with 90 exp, just add 10 exp to the human side when comparing.
  • I only did the numbers now. Other perks of being human are that it is easier to interact with the empire. Narrative perks of the different races must of course be taken into consideration.
