Thanks for posting the link. Sorry that it turned into this fiasco so quickly, although I'm not surprised. The accusation got suspect really quick, to me, which is unfortunate, because I'd generally believe the accusers, but... it's far too easy to destroy someone's name and things weren't adding up. The red flags for me were quotes from her stating that she asked him to promise not to have sex with her, when they first signed a contract to start working together. That read particularly odd to me, to meet someone and ask them to please not have sex with you, outright.
"I asked you to promise that you would never have sex with me. You assured me that I could trust you. That is about as clear a NO as I could ever cry. I asked for this because I had had other experiences in my music career and I KNEW."
Maybe, I'm wrong, but why would you sign to a label and tell the label owner that you'd be working with that you suspect that he's probably going to try and rape you, so he'd have to promise not to rape you first? And then, take him at face value, even though you "KNEW BETTER"? And, on the other side, why wouldn't you see the red flags and not tell her that you're not signing her, right then, if that actually happened?
The entire context she delivered was about how she was a genuine talent and the situation resulted in Young God dropping her and, in turn, that indefinitely destroyed her career. Most people leave Young God and do great. Akron/Family and Devendra Bahart got much more visibility on other labels, but her lack of fame and notoriety is ONLY because Gira dropped her and not because of a lack of interest, elsewhere. Then, she was right on time to drop a brand new single, specifically, for "rape survivors" ready to go on the heels of the notoriety gained by the accusation, which was right on the heels of Ke$ha's genuinely fucked up situation, which I absolutely do believe. A lot of people saw that as blatantly opportunistic and, after the other stories about her history with similar accusations -- as well as admitting false claims, blaming her personality disorder, and promising to stop making them -- came out... that's why it kind of died, so quickly.
One other aspect, which is much touchier to mention, because it still, in no way, okays it, if she honestly was victimized, is that she repeatedly speaks of how she was convinced that he was going to rape her, at some point, and that she demanded that everything remain professional, because she is, of course, a very professional and talented artist, but then states that she got black-out drunk alone around him, anyway, during this professional working relationship, and he took advantage of her, in that situation. So, she never said no, because she couldn't say no, but it doesn't matter, because she had already said "no," previously, when she originally made him promise not to rape her, when they signed the contract?
Sorry. I'm not saying that it happened, or that it didn't happen, but I am agreeing that it's suspect enough that people shouldn't go around calling him a rapist and trying to destroy his career, unless something more solid is presented. Gira's an easy target for something like this. For me, it might be he said/she said, but it's more like she said some stuff that added up less and less and more people than just him said things that casts a lot more dispersion on what she was saying.
