Predictions on mind uploading?

Well... I suspect that the tools we have now to image brain waves, are still highly PRIMITIVE and do not have sufficient resolution to take a snap shot of human consciousness, at any given moment.

Also, rather than imaging "brain waves", we will need to image all individual neurons within someone's mind, and the current state of activity of each neuron, at a given instant, in order to make a copy of someone's mind.

There might also be processing occurring at a deeper quantum level, which will add additional complexity.

So I guess I am much more skeptical than you, about the current state of brain imaging, and brain data-capture.

Being able to detect a few "brain waves" at our current PRIMITIVE level, is just not enough to cut it.

But... interestingly, I'm also more optimistic than you, about when we will achieve this level of imaging!

The problem in that regard, is that most of us humans (myself included) have a mental-handicap, in which we find it difficult to imagine exponential growth patterns, and instead think in a more old-fashioned linear style (gradual progression of technology).

So, I could be wrong, but I suspect by your projecting this technology as far as "2080" you might be thinking "linear" instead of "exponential" (which again, is a common problem to all human minds).

So... because technology is progressing at an exponential rate (not gradual-linear) that means it will likely spike rapidly, towards "infinite-ability" quite rapidly this century, sooner than we suspect, and that will most likely happen within a single instant of time (which hence fourth will be known as the "glorious year, when everything changed instantly").

I strongly believe that this sudden exponential spike towards infinity (the singularity) could occur anytime between 2025 and 2060.

So I don't think we will have to wait until 2080.

And ultimately, of course the big question remains: will humans survive that so called "glorious year of transformation"?

If you read Daniel H. Wilson's (who has master's degrees, and a PhD in robotics) I think you will see some rather depressing and downer depictions about how that year of sudden transformation may not go quite as well and gloriously as we might hope, for humans.
