Crystal Palace 4 Manchester United 0

An inspired performance from the Crystal Palace as well excellent tactical display from Roy Hodgson sees Crystal Palace getting their first win (and their first goals) of the season while handing title favourites Manchester United their first loss in what one could say is a familiar scoreline for United, albeit perhaps in their favour.

The key to the Eagle's success was Hodgson's use of the Malian attacking midfielder Bakary Sako as a false 9, with the man of the match bagging a hattrick before assisting Chung-Yong Lee for the fourth. This switch in style and tactics evidently caught Jose's Mourinho's usually robust and well-organised defence off guard.

Yohan Cabaye and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were also standout performers with the former pulling strings from the midfield while Palace dominated possession throughout the match, which is some indication that the Ajax and Barcelona inspired philosophy of former Palace manager Frank De Boer lives on at the club.

For Crystal Palace, such an outstanding victory against top opposition represents a revival of their fortunes in their battle with relegation and a chance to turn this result into momentum to lift them up the league table. But for now, Palace fans can savour their team's tour de force in what will surely go down as a historic match.
