It becomes an issue of importance where the President is using the power of his position over his subordinates in order to get laid. It is even more important when he feels he can commit perjury about it. He brought the Presidency into disrepute and in a wider sense he created an incredibly toxic culture for victims of workplace harassment, given the shit that got slung at Lewinsky. It also became quite clear that that Watergate was the exception, not the rule, and that politicians will defend and acquit the proven guilty if they're on the right side. All of this has now been exploited by Trump first to secure his election and now to avoid conviction.
