Somebody bragged about where they were flying and posted their airplane ticket here on reddit once while they were on vacation during a layover. I work with POS systems and Barcode software for a living and I am always curious about barcodes and QR codes. I was able to decipher the code on the person's ticket and access the airline website by using information in the code. I was shocked at the amount of access I had. It had their name and took me right to a webpage to modify their flight. I could have upgraded the person to a very expensive seat that would have cost them over $500 extra, or I could have cancelled their flight altogether, just with the information from the bar code.

I messaged the guy with his real name and was like hey dude, you should delete that pic of your airplane ticket because it has all your personal info on it. He thanked me. Then I posted a comment without any of his info and I was like "I was just able to get this guys personal info. PSA, don't post pictures of your airplane ticket because people could mess with your flight or get your personal info.

Instead of people thanking me for sharing this information, I got called a hacker and a bunch of people reported my comment. So yeah, in summary, go ahead and post all your barcodes here on reddit and Instagram and if somebody steals or messes with your shit, too bad, you're a moron.
