I have spent quite some time reading various reviews and I still don't know what to expect and what to believe reading this possible issue with the chips running hot. It's not that I don't trust the reviewers since that's what some of them probably do for a living, but very few are listing the exact kind of setup used for the tests: I've seen a lot of tests with room temperature of 28C or ran without a case and that stuff takes it toll.

I've been running for years my 4770k at 4.2-4.4-4.5 gHz and I can tell you that simply opening the side panel of my case makes the temperature skyrocket with 10-15 degrees in load, so a realistic test for me would involve running the system in a nice case with adequate cooling and playing games and a few apps that require some kind of light multicore usage like Adobe Photoshop batch processing, archiving files or transcoding lossless music music files to lossy files. For me, prime95 is definitely not a realistic load scenario and I simply do not care if my system could not run it for tens of minutes or hours or whatever.
