Pretty sure this sub would be shocked to know that there are different ways to be a trans person, depending on the culture you come from. Am assuming this sub is mostly white?

The only "gatekeeping" I experienced when trying to get a prescription for hrt thru a clinic which uses WPATH was that the psychiatrist made me have a year's worth of extra sessions with him because I'm not some caricature of stereotypical femininity.

Apparently me being somewhat GNC outweighed the fact that I've always hated my sexed body/having to interact socially as male etc. and wished I was a woman on the outside as well (i.e. the fact that I'm transsexual)

We spent hours with him asking completely irrelevant questions about my hobbies, fashion sense, masturbation techniques even, because he was convinced that I must be genderfluid or a demi-boy or some other bullshit. All of this despite me protesting constantly that I'm just transsexual, and that gender roles have very little if anything to do with that.

So I'm not saying that there can never be issues with getting a referral from a shrink, but the answer isn't to let a bunch of cis people start a life-changing medical procedure on a whim, it's to stop training psychiatrists in this tucute nonsense so that they can help actual trans people like they're supposed to.
