Primary - What is it like when you are no longer an ECT/NQT?

The workload of the ECT induction seems to be a little bit intense. The job does become a lot easier once you are not having half termly observations, having to write reflections and observe other teachers. (I can’t remember the last time I was formally observed now).

You do get more workload as you stay in the career longer. I am now a subject lead, deputy SENDCo, mentor for student teachers, and head of keystage/SLT in my fifth year. However, I feel like my workload now is less than when I was a NQT, as you get quicker with experience.

I wouldn’t say it ever feels like you’re on your own. I feel like I can go to my line manager/colleagues for help. Additionally, I would never turn anyone away on my team that needed support with anything. I think it depends on the school you are in and the culture.
