As long as you mind your business and don't draw any attention to yourself, then it's not as bad as you would think. Four rules to live by in there, 1.don't snitch (that included telling inmates other inmates' business), 2.treat everyone with the same respect, 3. If someone steals or tries to punk you, immediately start whooping his ass. It doesn't matter if you win or lose. They'll know you will fight and will find easier prey in the future. A few months in the hole for fighting is better than years of being turned out. This is the most important one, 4. Never EVER talk or try to be buddies with the guards in there. They are more dangerous than the inmates. Te inmates will assume you're a rat and will either stab you to death or beat you to death.
