Privacy Fears Raised Over School Dinner Fingerprint Payments

We had these in my primary school. Naturally it created more problems than it solved. Band aid on your finger = no lunch, the wee USB fingerprint scanner was pretty unreliable, and then of course the privacy concerns.

The school talked about it being able to ‘reduce bullying’, but the old system of handing in a cheque to reception and receiving a bunch of coloured tickets (which they still use in most places) wasn’t exactly a prompt for much bullying. Even in 2007 it was cooler to verbally abuse each other than try and steal each other’s parents’ money.
