I was pro life for most of my youth and I was involved with some pro life organizations until I spent time with parents who were extremely stressed and/or depressed in bad relationships with multiple children. When one of them said they were pregnant again I felt overwhelmed with despair and thought at that moment they should have an abortion. That's when I changed.

A few months ago one of my coworkers was living in an apartment with her boyfriend of a few months. He became very abusive, called her names and constantly threatened her and I suspect he was physically hurting her too, he spent hundreds of dollars on drugs every month, they had bedbugs but he was in denial about them, he was always loaning money to his family and then asking people for loans, just a revolving door of loaning out money. He was on SSI until he was 18 because he was delayed somehow. He actually told my coworker to go to the social security office and tell them she was crazy so she could get a check too.

After she found out she was pregnant he kicked her out of her apartment when she suggested he stop spending so much on drugs. She had to sleep in her car because she had nowhere to go. She doesn't have custody of her first child because she can't get her act together and she has no family to help.

Everyone in our department was happy for her but I couldn't bring myself to congratulate her (because I knew all this craziness was going on) so I avoided her until she approached me one night and told me she was pregnant. Long story short I suggested she get to a woman's shelter and get some help because her boyfriend was violent and scary and a baby can't live in the hell they're living in. She suggested she get an abortion and I fully supported her and she actually did it. She ended up moving in with another guy (from our department) like 3 weeks later, but then wanted to go back to the abusive ex because her new boyfriend isn't circumcised. I work with some wacky people.
