Probably my most awkward moment. Ever. I felt like such an ass

Op, this reminds me of something exponentially more cringy that I did a year or two ago.

So (without using real names) I was friends with two people, Lloyd and Jake. I found out that Jake had to get work done to his car, so I questioned Lloyd (who was/is one of my best friends) what happened. Lloyd told me that he got into an accident, and that it was a car accident that wasn't really an accident. Apparently, Jake was feeling depressed about a recent break up. So much so, that at an intersection, he kinda just let go control, I guess as a sort of suicide attempt. He obviously didn't die, but it prompted car repair and a made up story excuse, which he told everyone else evidently.

Okay, so now the stage is set, and this is where things take a slightly wrong turn. Lloyd told me about the suicide attempt, but I didn't believe him. Lloyd and I have a history of telling each other far fetched (but based on reality) stories for the purpose of getting one another invested in the story, only to finish it with "lol just kidding" as a way of trying to trick each other. So naturally, I didn't buy into the suicide attempt story. I honestly thought it was made up because who attempts to commit suicide by running an intersection and just letting go of control?

Now that I know about the suicide attempt, I could have just left it at that. But no, remember, I thought this was Lloyd's way of tricking me. So what do I do? I contact Jake to try and reverse the "trick" on Lloyd. My plan was (because I thought the suicide attempt was just a hoax) to team up with Jake, and make a group chat on Facebook, with Lloyd, and have Jake confess that the suicide attempt was real.

So I contacted Jake, and it went something similar to the following (Jake's girlfriend was changed to Megan):

Me: yo so Lloyd is trying to trick me into thinking you damaged your car because you attempted suicide

Jake: He told you that?

Me: Yeah, so to get him back, let's start a group chat and you admit to the suicide attempt, so he feels bad about it. To make him believe you actually tried.

Jake: okay

Me: remember, suicide for Megan!

So then the plan was made, and we started a group chat, and it went as planned. Except Lloyd got really angry and left. And when I questioned Lloyd, he didn't really want to be my friend anymore. So I asked why. He was upset that I talked to Jake about the secret he entrusted me with. Still in an almost disbelief, I asked if he was really serious about the suicide confession. He was. And that's when I realized I really, really messed up. I tried to contact Jake, apologizing, explaining myself. I even drove by his house because I was worried that he would attempt suicide again. He didn't. He's doing fine last I heard, but we aren't really friends anymore.

Tl;dr: I thought suicide attempt was a hoax, it wasn't, and I made it look like some big joke directly to the victim.
