This is probably a stupid question, has anyone ever actually had a relationship like in a romance novel? Like where you start out not liking eachother, but over time and hijinks you slowly learned to like one another until it grew into something more?

I lived the pretend-to-be-married trope.

After about six months of dating he proposed a paper marriage because the benefits from his work would be hugely beneficial to both of us. I drew up a contract and prenup and we ran with it. It was hilarious and also difficult because only a few people knew. Eventually my mom spilled it to my whole family and I had to explain. Even then some people didn't really understand and were like "Soooo... You're... not married??"

After he left that position we asked ourselves if a divorce was really worth it if we were planning to get re-married in the relatively near future anyways. We decided fuck it and went through a year of announcing a pseudo-engagement and on our actual third marriage anniversary made a facebook post announcing we were married, but set the date as our real wedding date. I think we only had to explain to one close friend who we didn't originally tell because we didn't want to offend their religious beliefs and they were cool with it.

Nobody else either pieced it together or cared, which goes to show you exactly how much other people think about things that seem like a huge friggen deal. To this day I still find the whole thing beyond funny and am looking forward to trying to explain it to our future children. Also, when people ask me what my wedding was like I get to tell them that I wore yoga pants and went to Buffalo Wild Wings on the way home.
