A portfolio website or offline portfolio is where you can build trust with your potential clients, since you'll get hired based on the work in your portfolio. It is your personal brand unlike Instagram or Facebook, where you can easily manage your brand identity with total control over your work.

The best way to create a portfolio website is to keep it minimal, with categorization of your works, About and Contact pages are must. You can add your handled cases in each category to make it look more professional. I've built my portfolio with Pixpa, where I can add as many pages as I want with all the work that I have done explained with images and content.
