The only good unions are socialist/left unions, and how we protect trans people is through unions, guaranteed work, and nondiscrimination at the federal level. I dunno what to tell you on this, this is my lived experience we're talking about. Some unions are definitely shit and racist and have been that way in the past. I'm here to tell you that trans people, regardless of race, even in those shit unions, are doing better. Unions like the CWA, the IWW, and the SEIU are the best for trans people and I'd like legislation to be put out there that promotes unions with very democratic structures, which is the failing point of the bigoted unions. I think you'd be surprised how quickly bigotry falls apart in a truly democratic system, though it obviously doesn't go away.

The only reason FDR passed his legislation is because there was a socialist movement that was threatening to literally depose the government if he didn't reform, and deposing the government would have been very popular at the time, too.

I really don't understand why you keep saying this. Are you rich? Socialism is meant to remove a burden from the working class by making them no longer worry about housing, healthcare, losing your job, or unemployment. If you want to work, you can. If you can't, you're fine. Work is actually a very good universal thing to talk about, its very easy to convince rural conservatives about socialism if you avoid buzzwords, actually. I've done a lot of organizing, the only problem is we don't have enough hands knocking on doors out here. That's why this is important.

This is actually a good thing. Socialism benefits from selfishness just as much as altruism. It is in everyone's best interest to organize with their neighbors: it will raise your wages by at least 20% on average.
