Propogation of uploaded files and takedowns, how does it work?

Sure.

Mathematically speaking it's of course not enough posting one screenshot, but I am not going to do all the work for you. If you are intrigued, add a free/block account and see if it gets used (i can only show you the door, you have to kill it with 2 stones). One occurrence could have different reasons like routing issues, packet loss or even a local problem on my part.

I can come as close as possible to proving it, though. In essence, just try it yourself. I mean what counts to you as a user, is that "do my other block/free accounts get used, if I already covered that back-end"? They do, this is not an exception.

Proof

Some people simply don't seem to understand this picture, so let me explain. Skip this paragraph if you do understand. So, see. SABnzbd does not have this thing called more than 2 usenet service provider priority levels. So you can have two categories of servers: 1) main, 2) backup. With NZBget, you get as many priorities as you want. I have 3 of them. So NZBget grabs the shit from UsenetBucket first. This episode consists of ~ 3000 so-called articles. UsenetBucket was missing 15 of these 3000 articles. What happened then was Xennanews (we as a community believe them to share the same backend as UsenetBucket) managed to grab 13 (!!) of those 15 articles, which is 87%. Yet, two were still missing. This is some weird coincidence right? This must be a 1 out of 1000? Nope. The same fucking NZB, still missing only 2 articles, tries yet my third priority level... XS News. We, as a community, also believe this to share the same back-end as both UsenetBucket and Xennanews (I think they are the back-end, are they not?) Yep, they still got half what of what was left after two successful attempts of retrieval.

These small article numbers won't fix my failed downloads!!

They will. And no, this is not some weird calculation typo or whatnot which happens once a year and does not change anything either way. I play around seeing a lot if I can grab certain articles (public) or not. They are either over/close to my retention - sometimes they are "just old" - meaning 500-800 days or something. During that time I stick to my set-up and gather a lot of old failed downloads. I save them in my history. Once I have like 10 of them in there, I test them out with a new set-up and usually find some interesting results (I am only interested in backup provider's performance where my main provider fails). Yep, downloads that didn't finish, now finish (how many ofc depends on your usp set-up).

WTF, why is this so?

I could quote this but I am not going to. Again, you are welcome to show me the middle finger and form your own opinion. The reason for that is that DMCA (and equivalents) are not the push of a button. There are law firms that deal with this. So the new Better Call Saul comes out? What happens is they (usually automatically) file hundreds of forms/emails each to

  • Forums

  • Trackers

  • Usenet Service Providers

  • Streaming sites

  • Indexers (yep, those do. Disagree, it is fine. At least I give a reason for my "believes" and claim to have a source - maybe you do the same)

  • One-Click Hosts

  • Google Play / AppStore / ... (the list goes on without limits actually)

They can't possibly cover all and most of that is somewhat automated. They go for the low hanging fruit, which is why you won't notice any of this. Most systems are not as simple. PirateBay does not have to do a lot of their shit. They are hosting torrent files and tracking p2p connections. None of that is (technically) illegal. So they make cooperation with these law firms a bitch. They ask for anything they are allowed to ask (if they can). This is also why Highwinds and AstraWeb can lick my cock. It is one thing if a site like usenet-crawler tries to benefit of something like DMCA, making requests that simple that they will stay for years and years. Highwinds and AstraWeb are giant service providers. They don't need to automate things. They just do. It escapes my mind, a service provider is supposed to protect the rights of their customers, not of unaffiliated law firms. They don't have to make these requests simple. They can take longer than 2 hours to do this. They are taking the wrong side.

Because of cool providers that make things difficult. The law firms do their DMCA requests in batches. Just missing all new, non-reposted shows like 12 hours is not a reason for you to ditch Usenet. However, if they render certain USP/indexer choices virtually unusable for a week or a month, people actually quit (usenet is a bad example here, they have much bigger incentives to deal with other infrastructures) - however with this system set up they can annoy people enough to get, say, a netflix subscription (which is genious). Better Call Saul, DareDevil, OitnB and Walking Dead could have been a bitch if you did not have a netflix subscription (and vice versa if you could not watch BCS in 1080p BluRay[HDTV.1080p] the day it aired). But particularly netflix. We had people whining every hour or so in IRC for two days. And people were facepalming and binge watching meanwhile.

But yeah, they will nag a UsenetProvider for a whole month and then let go. Kind of like bus controls. Heck, that's how they get Usenet Service Providers and their customers to throw the towel. If this harassment goes on for like 3 weeks you think twice if you don't "cooperate" with these trolls.

Yes, apparently resellers (!) and indexers (!) have to deal with DMCA take down requests themselves, too. People claim this to be a blatant lie. They even say how they are running their own 3 indexers and all their friends are running their indexers and they allegedly never gotten any DMCA requests or equivalents... until they do. Yep they go for the lowest hanging fruit here.

You guys can verify any of this with no real time loss and no money loss whatsoever. Heck, I don't see how any of my hints could hurt anybody. I am not telling you to grab 100 resellers from Highwinds, that would be stupid. I am merely saying two things. 1) Highwinds buying two more of your blocks is not the end of all there was, all there is and all there ever will be (lighten up) and 2) It actually is worth it adding an infrastructure of 2-5 free UsenetProviders (and scripting where necessary) 9/10 people telling you how that is pointless is just sad. Maybe this post can help turn it to 8/10 instead
