Agree, only because prostitution is going to happen anyway and people who work in this industry should have a legal option for it. They should be protected.

Better than the alternative of human trafficking, pimps, drugs and all that. Women and men who work (legally) as prostitutes would have security (like guards, cams outside their rooms, etc), regular drug screening, regular hours, access to healthcare and benefits. Obviously they would also have the choice to refuse clients they didn't want to service - it's prostitution, not rape. They should also keep 80% of their profits, but still be allowed to charge their own fees (so if they want to charge £500 an hour and they still get clients, all the better). The remaining 20% would go towards the infrastructure of protecting and looking after them. Almost like a state pimp, but a fair one. No matter how much each pays in, they all get equal treatment. If they were in breach of the drug screening they'd be sent to a treatment centre and not prison, then put forward for other training opportunities to get out of the prostitution field and find alternative employment.

Would it be an expensive operation? You bet. Would I happily pay tax for it? Absolutely. This would allow discerning clients to pay for sex while knowing the person they're with is actually consenting to and is being paid fairly for the service, rather than an actual sex slave. Only downside is that illegal human trafficking may still go on, with more "competitive" pricing.. but this happens already! So at the very least, legalising prostitution will reduce illegal activity.

Maybe my idea is ridiculously far-fetched but hey, it's something! I'd like to see some government official read this and say "hey, maybe that's something we can work on." Who knows.
