Well, DOM is very close to mescaline, structurally, both are serotonin and adrenaline agonists, and where Mescaline stimulates the alpha2c(inhibitory adrenaline) DOM stimulates the beta2 adrenaline circuit, and is less dreamy, more awake. It has properties for therapy like MDMA, psychedelic properties like LSD or mushrooms, and it has physical effects of stimulating then relaxing the subject. Because of this, I believe DOM can help people revisit and reevaluate decisions they have made under stressful conditions, where their beta2 adrenaline was going. The full effects of the drug are quite bizzare, sometimes time goes by quickly, other times it is slow or distorted. Being more lucid than mescaline makes it more of a stimulated/agitated state where almost anything can happen, so it is also good for couples. Most research on these kinds of drugs nowadays goes to MDMA or Psilocybin, when all along, DOM has been there, a deeper, more meaningful experience. if you go on Erowid.org and read the description of DOM, from Pihkal, it is mind boggling why it isn't used medically anymore. The main reason is because in 1967, Owsley Stanley made a bunch of 10-20mg tablets of "STP" which was DOM, and gave them out at the first Human Be-In, as they didn't have enough LSD for 40-50k people, so 10k people got a huge dose, no one was told what the drug was other than a psychedelic. Now, high doses aren't physically dangerous, but they can be uncomfortable, very minor things can become irritating even painful, normal sensations like hearing or smelling. So 1200+ people "ODing" on DOM flooded emergency rooms in SF, and many were given chlorpromazine, which made it worse, because no one outside of a few of Owsleys friends knew what it was. This is why it has stayed underground, there are analogues which are more visual like DOC/DOB/DOI, but they are dirtier in their effects vs. DOM, aka Serenity, Tranquility, and Peace (STP) !!!!!
