1. I saw the first two and hated both. The didn't respect a lot of Trek's canon in both movies.
2. I've seen Lost, Fringe, Prometheus, and a number of "Bad Robot" productions helmed by JJ Abrahams, with Lindelof as a writer/co-writer. They are great at character building, shitty at endings, shitty at writing plots that make sense or have great continuity.
3. I've seen Justin Lin's work, including his attempt to break out of "dumb action" by taking on an episode of True Detective.
   
4. When I heard they beat the bad guys by playing a Beastie Boys song, I was officially done. Using 1980s rap music in the first movie was stupid. Using it to defeat another big baddie, is dumber and I have no interest.

I have been to conventions. I have read over 50+ star trek books. I have comics. I have built starship models.

I own DS9 on DVD, TNG on bluray, TOS on both, the TOS and TNG movies on bluray. Voyager on DVD. ENT on Bluray.

I have watched star trek since I was a child. Growing up i had ALL of TOS, TNG, 75% of DS9 and 25% of Voyager all recorded to VHS from it's airings.

As a kid, I had posters on my wall.

MY KID has rug that's half the size of his room that has the Enterprise A on it, along with children's star trek books for toddlers, star trek pajamas.
