I use the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep database as a quick search initially when looking up an ingredient for the first time. https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

If they don't provide much information about the ingredient, or if the information they list suggests the ingredient is unsafe, I do extra research outside of the EWG database. I generally to that extra research outside of the database anyways.

It's a good method to learn about the ingredients in your skin care. I don't use any products that have ingredients I have not read about and deemed acceptable for myself.
