Though not specifically Masonry, there were militant groups in Syria that used hashish during initiations and prior to combat. This is what inspired the storyline to the original Assassin's Creed game. Believe it or not, the term "assassin" is derived from the word "hashashin." During these initiations, candidates would be administered hashish and shown a fantasy of beautiful women, riches and stuff like that while under the influence of hashish. Assassins would only be subject to this fantasy land if they were to carry out assassinations or threats to officials, that would benefit the head of their order.
