[PubQ] Choosing between two agents

The irony is: I also do advise authors not to go strictly on bedside manner, advice I give b/c I'm with a "straightshooter who doesn't gush on offer" calls agent and know many authors will automatically pick the "friendlier" or more gushy agent based on "gut" and pass up a great agent.

I had the same experience, one agent gushed extensively about the project, another agent (now my agent) was so reserved I had to ask her half way through the call if she was offering. She laughed and said yes. Today, I'm incredibly grateful for her shrewd eye, her calm hand, and her dispassionate assessments of my work. It's not that she isn't nice (she is!), but she's a consummate professional, and I love her for it.
