Pulling kid out of private school

I echo your take on private school.

Private school certainly can offer academic discipline, and better teacher access, etc, however if you've got decent genetics and resources, then the kid already has abundant opportunity to succeed in life. You've clearly succeeded and will likely pass on many lessons to your children even unconsciously.

One thing that public school has to offer on the other hand is PERSPECTIVE and grounding. It significantly lowers the chance of them becoming a snobby, entitled, second gen rich kid. It rounds out the gap in their abilities. For me it was being a very nerdy soft eng type naturally, but growing up on a farm. The growing up on a farm was critical in covering my natural deficiencies. Now I have high intel, high risk tolerance, and social ability which is a really solid combo.
