Punching the Lights Out

You are claiming you can't do it past that.

TIL that the distance in between 1 foot and 3 feet is actually 0. Darn this makes perfect sense now. Because 3-1 = 0 and you showed video proof of people punching out candles at 1 foot, my argument for fist-generated pressure waves not propagating 3 feet IS false.

God it sucks that there isn't a logical problem with that argument, otherwise what I've been arguing would actually be sound, and you wouldn't be so perfectly fallacy proof as you claim to be.

Completely seriously, though

I see which statement of mine you're taking out of context. It was the one about a 3 feet punch. You ignored the extra information implied in there, which was that the redditor would be trying it, not a freaking shaolin monk. I have no idea whether a shaolin monk COULD do that, but neither of us have proof for or against it.

One of the problems with this argument we're having is that the situation isn't defined well enough. There is no defined max fist speed, no defined fist shape, no defined temperature / humidity / density of the air, no defined drag coefficient for the surface of the fist, and no defined pressure differential for a candle to blow out, among other things.

If you put limits on those factors it limits the distance at which you can blow out a candle with a punch. If you do not, then there is no limit. You're thinking it might be possible for someone in some way, I'm thinking it's impossible for that boxer and the average redditor, who were the relevant parties in this situation before you came in and started taking earlier comments out of context and comparing them to freaking shaolin monks.

If someone is arguing about movie theater food for 5 minutes, then says "I will NEVER buy popcorn" and a 3rd party comes in saying "HA you're wrong you bought popcorn at the supermarket last week", that is not the 3rd party proving the first wrong, it is not the first person being a liar or an idiot, that is the 3rd party changing the subject and using semantics to make the first person's statement incorrect by ignoring previously relevant information.

The reason you are getting downvotes is because you came out of left field and started making accusations at people for being dumb and ignorant, when, before you popped in, everyone was making off the cuff remarks about boxers / redditors punching candles, not shaolin monks punching candles.

On top of that, your arguments are not good enough to hold up against your own criticisms. You make claims about what other people are saying that are just as reaching as their misrepresentations of what you are saying. There was no crazy angry argument before you came in. You created all of this animosity and anger by not even trying to understand what people were talking about, then calling them stupid. That's why a whole bunch of people are hating on you, but no one else has bugged me. You're the common factor.
