‘The Punisher’ & ‘Jessica Jones’ Canceled By Netflix; Latter’s 3rd Season Still To Air

I wrote this about the Punisher S2, but never posted it anywhere. It’s a bit long, but I just fucking hated this goddamn lazy season.

Rant:

I hate how overly melodramatic they made the Punisher in this run. The slow-burn of the first season was quite enjoyable to me because we got to know Frank on an emotional level and it made the ending feel climatic and earned. But in S2, it is done is such an unnatural way that it wore me off.

[spoilers]

In season two, every single character, no matter how insignificant they are or have minor roles, are melodramatic and overly exaggerated.

Not to mention how most characters spend the majority of their screen time talking about their feelings, it just comes off as highly unrealistic and sloppy writing.

Too many supporting characters are displaying the same emotions/lines episode after the other to fill out screen time and it’s so daunting.

Which sucks because when the actual story kicks into motion and we’re back with Frank, the show goes into A-tier.

And then it goes back to yet another scene of Russo, Madani, or whatever talking about their feelings on the edge of tears. And this happens so many times that it just feels like a chore.

And this all comes at the expense of the actual story. The plot from episodes 4-9 doesn't reveal anything new other than a couple of things. They all suffer from increasingly annoying character exposition scenes. I know the Netflix formula of 13-episodes is taking a toll, but some of the blame has to be put on the writers. The dialogue comes off as very unnatural and the scenes lack creativity in what to do or how to waste time.

I know the episode count is partly to blame, but the writers' are also to blame also for not finding solutions to it other than having characters sit down and talk about their feelings all the time. It just comes off as very lazy writing.

So if cancellation means the show goes to another creatives eventually, I’m all for it.
