This is the punishment that a 6 year old boy in Oregon received for being late after his mother's car wouldn't start.

There is zero background to this story. How many times has mom dropped the kid off late? What all her excuses?

I work in the schools and we would never do this to a child but there are consequences for being tardy. Usually elementary students are not issued consequences but middle school and high school students are given demerits which lead to Saturday school.

Parents always state some sort of excuse. Slept late, car won't start, etc. The frequent flyers have the same stories. The issue is we have a bus service for all children. If the bus is late it is our fault and there is no tardy (rarely happens). Our bus safety records are immaculate. Yet parents want to drive their child these days. One parent told me the ten minute morning drive was their quality time (very sad if so).

Then parents say I don't want my kid bullied on the bus. Rarely happens and nowadays we have six angles of video with audio. We deal with any bully issues.

Again, I hate that someone did this to a child if this story is true. Unfortunately today everything goes viral like this with little or no background story.

People blame others for their issues. What has happened in this country? Where are the consequences? Again if this truly was the punishment it is wrong. But where do we stop? How much do we bend? There are less and less consequences for students and the blame is on the teachers and educators. We are eroding as a society. There are rules and yes we need to be gray with them from time to time especially with kids.

Before everyone freaks on this post, get your background story in full. The person that posted this on Facebook (such a reliable source - said in a sarcastic tone) is only giving their side and perspective. The only people that know the real story are the parents, kid, and school. The parents gave their slant, the kid won't talk and should not be bothered by anyone about it, and the school cannot talk about due to FERPA issues (privacy laws).

Again, my school would never do this and I would be livid if we did. Get the whole story before making something that is inconsequential a story that goes viral. It is sad that very few people take ownership of their issues and they want to blame others. If mom wasn't late (I am sure it was more than one time) then none of this would have ever happened. We should be mad at the mother for being late. Most jobs won't allow you to be late. Some in fact have a 30 day no late no matter what policy.
