Pure CSS Oil Painting - by Diana Smith aka cyanHarlow

All I see is the same 10 properties repeated over and over. Is the mastery that the artist can identify and name every shape?

Seems odd to choose CSS as an art medium, but not consider cross-browser compatibility, not use media queries, only use pixel and percentage units, avoid the benefits of non-div HTML elements and pseudo-selectors, and not leverage more of CSS’s feature set (such as animations, transformation matrices, grids and flexible containers, HSL and LAB color spaces, etc.) with graceful degradation.

That’s not to say the art is not good or not interesting or that the artist doesn’t know CSS. But so far, all I see is a hand-crafted live trace that is more verbose than a manually crafted SVG tree. Like using a pencil to paint with. Sure it can be done, but why?
