Question about damages

Thats kinda wrong.

A weapon cannot wound more times than it has hits. If a weapon has 1 shot, then no matter it's strenght, it can only ever inflict max 1 wound (bar special circumstances). If a weapon has 3 shots, it can only ever inflict max 3 wounds.

Because the way it works is "Shoot weapon X times" -> "how many times were hits?" -> "How many times of those hits were wounds" -> "Saving throws".

It doesnt matter what "damage" a weapon does, as that only affects whether a hit becomes a wound. It does not affect how many hits there are.

A weapon with more hits (i.e. Lascannon 6) can generate more hit rolls, which means its more likely to generate a hit / a wound (more dice). A weapon with more strength is more likely to wound.

Now back to original topic, every wound is separate. If you shoot a squad of 1 wound orks with something that after all the rolls manatged to get 3 wounds, that's 3 orks that die (unless they saveroll).
