Question about employment while attending OSU

I had a job at a vet clinic in Clintonville as a freshman. I got there using the #2 COTA bus (pre-paid through your tuition). The COTA buses, if your place is close to campus, should be good at getting you there. Would recommend not waiting for the very last COTA bus that can get there on time as they aren't always super on-time, would try to go for the bus that's a couple ahead of that.

I was very clear about how often I could work and what my class schedule was like and they tried their best to be flexible. There were some situations though where they really pushed it and wanted me to come in for hours I wasn't scheduled for (the schedule was released at the beginning of each month) or stay way after hours (the place was only open 7-noon on Saturdays and I would often be there until 5 or 6 PM if not later doing paperwork the vet put off doing and calling folks) to do extra work. That interfered with my social life and my studying.

It ended up with me quitting and switching out of the pre-vet track because I realized I didn't want to deal with the amount of BS and stress vets do. The biggest thing you'll have to think about is how balanced you can be. Academically, college requires a lot more studying and focus than high school which many of us did OK to very well in at the very least. If you are going to have a job, make sure to be firm on your schedule and how much you want to work and don't get bullied into sacrificing too much of your time. Socially, especially as a freshman, it's important to form some bonds either with classmates for studying, potential roommates, fun people, etc. and it is much easier to do all that when, as a freshman, you're pretty much stuck with people in a dorm and forced to at least attempt to get along. Versus now I live off campus and outside of those core groups of friends I made on-campus I really haven't bothered making that many new relationships.
