Walt never really loved his family. He might have *thought* that he loved them, but ultimately he didn't.

The producers added a few touching scenes, like him standing up for Walt Jr at the shop, or his babysitting Holly (maybe once)? But the reality is that he was so busy selling meth that he wasn't even there for Holly's birth. He regularly was away for long & unexpected periods of time, when Skyler was doing 99% of the care for a disabled teen & infant.

He turned down a steady job offer & cancer recovery - which, in the end, would've been better for his family than dragging them into a criminal case & dying early.

He grabbed Holly out of a pre-calculated plan -- one last "trick" against the police. Maybe there was some vaguely well-meaning motive, like to give Skyler as excuse. But he genuinely terrified her. As a parent, I couldn't imagine a deranged & abusive parent snatching my baby away & having to call the police.

Anyways, no. That's no how a loving parent works. He could've had a few loving minutes with Holly anytime.
