Question about Input and Output nomenclature / labels (Voicemeeter Potato)

I made a diagram with arrows so you can see where the sound goes. Red means sound input, yellow dotted is inside voicemeeter when clicking the A1/A2/etc buttons and Green is the output from VoiceMeeter back to the devices.

Note that the "VoiceMeeter" windows devices have their routing hardcoded in potato. They are basically HiFi Cables with another name. Otherwise said, Potato comes with 3 builtin HiFi Cables that you should use before adding more cables:
  • VoiceMeeter Input is relayed to #6

    • VoiceMeeter AUX Input is relayed to #7
    • VoiceMeeter VAIO3 is relayed to #8

There are also 3 Windows Input devices, and again, their routing is hardcoded in Potato: - VoiceMeeter Output is B1's mix - VoiceMeeter AUX Output is B2's mix - VoiceMeeter VAIO3 Output is B3's mix

Let's forward YouTube to Discord just for fun: - Go into the Windows Output settings - Set the default output+communication device to "VoiceMeeter VAIO3 Input" - Go into the Windows Recording devices settings - Set the default recording and communication device to VoiceMeeter VAIO3 Output. - Open youtube (or spotify/vlc/etc) and play something - You should see the sound coming in potato #8 - Click 'B3' on #8 so that B3 receives sound - Discord should now be receiving the audio because it monitors VAIO3 and VAIO3 is B3

Maybe you want to hear it too? - In potato, assign A1 to your speakers - In #8, click 'A1' to send the sound to your speakers too

And now you want a microphone: - In potato, assign #1 to your microphone - Click 'B3' on #1 to send to discord - Click 'A1' on #1 to hear yourself

But you want to isolate a game, so: - Configure the game to use VoiceMeeter AUX Input as its output (either using the game's settings or using AudioRouter) - You should see the game in potato #7 - Click 'A1' to hear the game. You COULD click 'B3' to send the game to discord too but I guess you don't want that.

And you probably want to: - Configure Discord's output so that it uses "VoiceMeeter Input" so that you hear it in #6 instead of #8. - Then you can click A1 on #6 to hear it. DO NOT click B3, since you would send the audio back to discord. Maybe that's what you mean by trolling :)

You can get 80% of the work done using Potato and Windows Defaults. Then if there are specific apps that you want to treat as exceptions, that's when AudioRouter becomes useful.
